When he was in the emergency room, Lancaster tells the doctor Five days without food or water. Now would be a good time to import the story Dale brought up in the other forum (the Amazon one, under Life imitates art... )But I don't know how. It's an interesting co-incidence if you missed it the first time.

good idea Ronald, here it is!
D. L. Power says:
You all know the story, right? Brian Yi is placed in custody for five days, without food or water, in the dark and shackled the whole time. He hallucinates, and finally accepts that he's going to die there.
It's pretty unrealistic, isn't it? The police would never do anything like that. Not ever.
Not even by mistake.
That article tells the story of Daniel Chung and the DEA.
Read it and comment below.
A few points to remember:
1. Proxy was already out when that happened.
2. Brian's first draft name was Daniel.
3. This story happened a while ago, but a reader pointed out the news about a settlement from the DEA. It's good to see them standing up when they botch things. A lot of people with power wouldn't be as brave about the whole thing.
As an agency at least.

I think the police are like everyone else. There are good ones and bad ones. You can't turn on the tv without seeing a Priest, Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher etc getting in trouble for something. Of course sometimes it isn't just good or bad ...people make honest mistakes as well. The cops in this book seem a bit extreme to me...I kept thinking the whole time that it was some kind of test for Brian. I know some cops and they are decent people. They are all big city cops and have an edge to them but still pleasant enough. Of course I realize that this is a story and Dale was was writing it as he saw fit.
I'm enjoying this story and look forward to more.
