Hello All,

Dale and I have been communicating about the recent problems with the Forum here at pspowerbooks.com. It has been decided to retire the Forum and move all author & conversational interactions over to Patreon.

Over the next week or so, I'll be closing down the Forum and creating redirects to start funneling visitors of the Forum over to that URL (the main website showing all the books will be staying).

Thank you everyone for your participation on the Forum these past several years! See you on Patreon!! :mrgreen:

I have just rediscovered The Varayan Memoirs by Rick Shelley. It's about a 21-year-old college student that comes home to find his parents missing. He learns that his strange life (learning fencing, multiple martial arts, and wilderness survival skills) has all been training for his role in a family of heroes, wizards, and royalty from a bizarre world on the border between logic and Fay. He has to get used to the idea fast because his mother and father are in mortal danger in a strange world on the other side of a weird doorway in his parent's basement. I loved these books when I was a kid.

When you were a kid? It was only published 4 years ago! In other news, I am old.

I love coming of age stories, and fantasy novels... I haven't read a whole lot of these threads and I'm slowly working my way through, but whoever mentioned the Honor Bound series - so very great, and I'm now reading through the Kel Kade series, and just finished Dawn of Wonder which is similar and ... man, I could just read more and more of these stories... love em.

David Gemmell's books and The Chronicles of Amber series are more what I think to when I was a kid.

That's just the kindle publish date. It was originally published decades ago.

@brainsniffer

Yaaaaah, David is right about that. Unfortunately. I'm not old, but knowing I was old enough to read novels back in 1990 doesn't make me feel like a spring chicken either. /dramatic sigh

On an unrelated note to everyone,

I would avoid L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s Recluse series. It had a good concept, and much of the writing is great -- until you get to the infamous blacksmithing hole. An entire chapter about blacksmithing, totally unrelated to anything else after that I could see. It still stuns me to think about it. I didn't recover from the forlorn chasm of boredom into which I was tossed (and a very deep chasm it was). I suppose mileage may vary, but wow. Lest you think it was "only a chapter" it was the length of some novellas I've read, if memory serves.

New school of magic by Christopher Nuttall. Good book, bad news is there is a cliffhanger of sorts, but he's promised book ten in a month or so because of it.
