Hello All,

Dale and I have been communicating about the recent problems with the Forum here at pspowerbooks.com. It has been decided to retire the Forum and move all author & conversational interactions over to Patreon.

Over the next week or so, I'll be closing down the Forum and creating redirects to start funneling visitors of the Forum over to that URL (the main website showing all the books will be staying).

Thank you everyone for your participation on the Forum these past several years! See you on Patreon!!

p.s. Sorry about all of the coding errors. They reset nightly these days and I can't keep up with changing the code that often... :(

Snowbound Nomad

Coming out on July 10, 2017

It's a romance by genre and has the pen name "Cassie Power" on it. Don't worry, it's still just me...

The story is a romance, though not a typical one, I don't think. Hopefully people give it a chance.

Why write romance? First, to push myself to do new things. Second, to introduce something new to that world. Romance tends to be a bit predictable. Which this is as well. I mean, really, two people meet, they get together, that's kind of the point, right? The things around that are more fluid, however.

This is, if people like it, going to be the starting point for a new series (of romances, because of the third point...)

Romance novels outsell everything else. It isn't even close. It's a bigger market, so doing well there could be a way to stay relevant in hard economic times. I won't give up on the science fiction and fantasy though, so no worries there. I'll just have to work twice as fast. That's all.

:)

(Imagine a slightly manic face with bulging eyes, as a twitchy person sits, writing without end...)

Hopefully this works?

Thanks everyone!

Do you have a blurb, summary, or tagline to share? I get that I'm impatient...

The book is up now, here is a link:

Snowbound Nomad is a romance novel that takes place in a small, very isolated cabin in Eastern Washington state. Just as a very strange blizzard arrives, so do Merry Seaford and Dan Meeres. Merry is the science producer on a television show, as well as their location scout. Uncanny things is paid for by a reclusive but wealthy man. His "grandson" Dan arrives just in time to be snowed in with Merry...

It's a romance, but the background contains bits of real lore as well as magic and legend from around the world. So far everyone that has read it, including the guys that have never opened a romance, seem to have liked it. (Which probably means there isn't enough romance...)

Well, it looks like this idea might not have worked out too well. Hopefully that changes?

After all, if I can't work out a way to make money from writing, I'll have to do something else. That will take time from what I've been doing. (Then, that's everything in life. Everything is temporary. I'll still get through the current story lines, somehow.)

I still think you should put the stories through a meat grinder and put them out in all formats. There are nook and Apple readers out there just waiting to find you.

The issue is one of balance.

Can I reach as many people doing everything else as I can being all in on kindle? So far (when I've tried) the answer has been a clear no.) Those readers might be out there, but they have to find the work, which would mean losing half my income until they pick things up. If they do.

I might reach a point where doing that is the best option, but so far it hasn't worked yet. (Would it if I put ninety titles up in a few weeks time? Maybe. I can't prove that though, so it's a real risk. Also, a LOT of work. More than just writing a new book or even two!)

Yeah, I don't think their much smaller market share can make up for the kindle unlimited income either. Although some of those KU readers might purchase rather then walk away, it's a gamble.

Maybe try it with one book first?

As far as the romance, it's a new name and new Genre, so outside of the people on this website, it'll take time to break into it and get a romance genre fan base. Might be worth writing one every third or fourth book until it catches. IDK. Maybe?

I liked it, and got my copy.

Yeah. The problem with breaking into a new market with one book is the same one as with Snowbound...

There is no market there yet.

I have an advertising campaign set to start/run August 8th. Hopefully that will help. Maybe not. We will see.

Guys, I really enjoyed Snowbound Nomad, and I understand the desire to cash in on that ever-so lucrative Romance dollar machine. Maybe reposition the book into the Fantasy/Romance category instead, which will catch a lot more of 'our' kind of people than otherwise? I'm sure you've already thought of this, but I figured mentioning it couldn't hurt.

For example, a few months ago when I went to Preppercon in Sandy, UT (just outside Salt Lake and cheaper price on tables than anything in SLC proper) I had a great turnout for post-apoc, fantasy and horror crowds for our table. However, we didn't have anything I'd call romance there, so we sent some folks around the corner to Kate Morris (great lady, by the way) for her McClane Apocalypse series. They are apocalyptic romance, and she does great with her sales.

Point here is, I figure Uncanny books would be horror/fantasy adjacent, and should do nicely in that area. Heck, remember when Lauren K. Hamilton used to be good? She owned that market space before her books degenerated into bondage porn. Anyway, just my two cents. I just want to see more of the Uncanny books.
