I just got a new book called 'a natural history of dragons'.
It pretends to be the autobiography of an old woman who was an explorer and kind of scientist. She's kind of like a woman of the victorian age who who, at first, has to find a husband wo lets her use her brain, then gets said husband to take her on science heavy tours to look into all kinds of things from biology to history to behaviour of dragons (and she nearly gets eaten by dragons - btw dragons are wild animals in this book). Several times. It's told in a humorous but serious fashion. No long explanations about her world or anything, you're just thrown in and it's really fun and interesting to read.
Occasionally said old woman who's telling the story mocks herself, her society and pretty much everything else. Especially herself though. Like when her 19 year old self does something stupid and rectless but due to her stupid actions something very good happens (which solves most of her problems). Her younger self thus concluded that recless and downright idiotic behaviour was an excellent idea - which led her to where she is when she tells the story.
